what army should i choose in warhammer Dark vengeance?

Warhammer 40k
There is the chaos army and the dark angels, im going to hand one army over to my friend then we will learn the game, some people i talked to suggested that chaos sucks…badly, and dark angels from what ive seen is pretty kick but. What are some pros and cons about each army? keep in mind i am just starting out.

Pick the one you think looks the coolest. Seriously. Winning with boring models is less fun than losing with cool ones that you enjoy assembling and painting.
That being said, neither army sucks, really. That’s because they are both Space Marine based armies, benefiting from above average stats and gear. The Chaos forces in the box don’t fare well against the Dark Angels in the box, because their Hellbrute (the big dreadnaught) is outfitted for tank killing rather than anti-infantry. It doesn’t help that the cultists are pretty easy prey for the default weapon (boltgun) of all Space Marines.
If you add a few things to each army, they will balance out pretty well in the end. The Dark Angels have a lot of elite troop choices and vehicle options that are cool and effective. The Chaos Marines need another squad (or three) of Marine infantry to really compete. I recommend Plague Marines or Thousand Sons against Dark Angels. The Chaos Helldrake (demonic flyer) is still pretty dominant in many tournaments.
The most important thing is to get the Codex for both armies. You will need them to play any game larger than the intro box set, and they have all of the options listed (and pictured) in them, so you get an idea of what you can do. That way you can always just swap books if you don’t like the one you chose.
